Website design - then and now

I started designing websites for myself over ten years ago and then started doing them for other people, mainly small businesses.

Over the years things have changed quite a bit. Design styles come in and go out of fashion, but the biggest change that has affected website design in recent times has been the need to change to mobile friendly 'responsive' designs that adapt to various screen sizes on different devices, including smartphones, tablets, notebooks, laptops as well as desktops.

But it's interesting to look back at some of the old designs produced for clients and compare them with the latest ones.

Below are two screenshots taken from a client's website. One is from way back, and the other is today's version. Can you tell which is which?
