After many years being self employed as a driving instructor I have finally relinquished my A.D.I. license and committed myself full time to my web design business.
I got into web design by accident a few year's ago, but I won't bore you with the details. Suffice to say, I spent many hours learning the hard way through trial and error using a web design software package that I still use to this very day. Having learnt all about Wordpress, web hosting and search engine optimisation etc., I have finally achieved what many others have strived for... making an income online. It's been a lot of work so far, working many hours to provide a service and build up a client base, but it's been worth it.
Initially, I tried to make a steady passive income from affiliate marketing and creating niche websites that used AdSense to provide some financial return. And for a while it was quite successful. But when you rely mainly on search engines and SEO to keep ahead of the game, the idea of creating a good passive income from building lots of niche sites slowly ebbed away. The search engines are constantly changing in the way they assess websites and results often fluctuate dramatically, so it's a case of constantly maintaining and updating niche websites in order to survive.
Don't get me wrong, I still believe that affiliate marketing and contextual advertising is still a good way to make money from the internet, as long as you're prepared to put in the hours.
