A lot of websites were affected by Google's updates during 2012. A couple of my own websites which I built around specific niches had dropped significantly in the rankings and it made a noticeable dent in my income. At the same time however, my web design business has remained in a healthy state.
If you're in a business which relies on making money from the internet then you definitely need to keep in mind that multiple streams of income are essential to keep your bank balance healthy. If one source of income takes a dive then you can still rely on other income streams to keep you afloat while making plans to replace any loss of income.
There are many ways to make money online, if this is your goal. Affiliate marketing, AdSense, providing a service, selling goods on ebay and digital product sales are just some of the methods used. I personally plan to rejuvenate some of my own websites which I registered domain names for but barely reached the development stage. However, given time I hope to make them financially rewarding.
Let's hope 2013 offers new opportunities and is a good year for new online businesses and opportunities for marketers and entrepreneurs.
