The new issue of Window Cleaning Magazine is now available and packed with interesting articles, plus tips, advice and interviews with leading figures in the Window Cleaning Industry.
Why mention the Window Cleaning Magazine on a blog about web design?
Because the magazine layout and publishing has been produced by yours truly. Lee Burbidge is the brains behind the magazine and has done a fantastic job so far in pulling everything together. I'm just the guy who follows Lee's instructions. But if you take a look at the magazine I think we make a good team.
The Window Cleaning Magazine is free to anyone interested in reading it. You can dowload and subscribe the current issue, as well as the first issue by following the link below.

Business domain name registration
Have YOU registered a business domain name for your company yet?
If not, then it should be high on your list of priorities if you want to ensure your preferred domain name is not taken by another company with a similar name.
Here are a few guidelines that should help you to choose a good domain name for your business...
1. Choose a domain name that conveys the nature of your business as well as the name of the company.
2. If the domain name that best fits your company name has already been taken e.g. Johnsmithscleaning.co.uk consider variations on the name that might still be available. For example Johnsmithscleaningservices.co.uk This name is quite lengthy but at least it contains extra keywords which should help get more results for various search phrases used.
3. Ideally, the length of the domain name should be kept reasonably short if possible because it's easier for potential customers to remember if they want to return to your website.
4. It's worth considering to purchase not only the best domain name that closely resembles your business name, but also consider buying domain names that are helpful in driving traffic to your main website. Web forwarding can be used to redirect people to your main site from another registered domain. Or a one page promotional page can also be used for a similar purpose or for collecting emails of enquirers.
5. Always choose a reliable company with a good reputation that has been recommended by someone who has used them before. I like to use 123-Reg for registering domains because they make the process of configuring domain names easy, and they are very affordable.

Designing and building your own website
Many people like the idea of building their own website and publishing it themselves, which is fine as long as you understand the procedures involved in getting your website online. For some, it can be a little confusing without some guidance.
Even if you learn how to design a website, and upload the files to your chosen web host, there's still the matter of getting visitors to come to your site. If it's a personal website it probably won't matter too much if you're not getting a lot of visitors, but if it's a business website and you're relying on finding potential customers then it's important to understand how to drive traffic to your site as well. This is generally the hardest part.
Having a good knowledge of SEO (search engine optimisation) is essential to getting a high ranking position for your website. Without implementing the most effective SEO techniques your website may never get found.
If you're determined to do eveything yourself then here's a link to an article that you may find helpful...

Getting on the first page of Google
A business website that doesn't appear on the first, second or third page of Google for any important keywords related to their business might as well not exist. Does your website fall into this category? If you're not getting enough enquiries from your website then you should definitely take steps to improve results.
If you run a service business there are 3 primary ways to get your business noticed in the search results on Google. (in the UK 90% of searches are done with Google)
Either..
a) Get your website optimised for the best results
(this will provide a higher position in the free ‘organic’ free search)
b) Get listed on Google Places
(this service is free and is essential for service businesses)
c) Pay to get listed in the Google 'AdWords' sponsored ads
(this service is also known as 'pay per click' advertising)
If you’re not familiar with these methods then here's a brief guide on what they can do for your business and how to get your website on the first page of Google.

Window Cleaning Magazine
The new online Window Cleaning Magazine has been launched during October and is packed with useful and informative articles that should be of interest to window cleaners throughout the UK.
The magazine is the brainchild of Lee Burbidge of High Shine Ltd., who also happens to be one of our website clients. Lee asked if I could help him design and publish the magazine, which will be available as a pdf download and can also be viewed in a magazine format on Yudu.com.
Having gone through the process of designing an electronic magazine, Studio Arts is now in the position to offer new and existing clients a similar service.
Whether it's a digital magazine, a company catalogue, downloadable brochure or a simple ebook, we can help you bring your ideas to life. Pdf files can be read by most computers, smartphones and ebook reading hardware such as Amazon's Kindle and other similar ebook readers.
