I'm often impressed by the sheer quality of computer generated effects in films these days. Even on small independent productions or demo reels uploaded to YouTube, the standard of effects is incredible. I've always had an interest in this side of film making, and it's astonishing how many people are involved in the special effects of a big budget feature film.
However, it doesn't always require a huge budget and a large team of effects people to produce something really impressive. There are many videos on YouTube that are testament to this. Just check out the 'CG Bros' channel.
