Seems like I'm spending an awful lot of time these days updating websites for clients. Sometimes it's adding new pictures to their gallery, or some other page. Sometimes it's adding new pages to their site to describe new services they are expanding into.
Doing updates helps pay the bills but I much prefer to work on a new design from scratch. I like to expand my knowledge and improve my design skills whenever I get the chance. It's always more of a challenge to come up with something new and exciting than doing the more mundane tasks.
Just recently a client asked me to update his blog because Alexa gave it a relatively low score, including suggesting that the blog posts had a low word count. So I spent around 5 hours updating 32 posts. A bit of a pain I know, but you have to keep the client happy.
One project I've enjoyed working on lately is the Local Quality Services website. The first design based on the client's suggestions was ok but I personally felt it didn't project the image required to promote the business sucessfully. So basically I created a new 'mock up' homepage of how I thought the site could look better, and after seeing it he agreed, so now I'm currently working to expand the site and get it optimised for the search engines. Hopefully, the concept of the business will prove successful. It's not going to be easy to get established, because the fact is, there's a lot of established websites out there that are doing similar things, so competing with them will be a struggle. Still, "he who dares, wins" as Del boy use to say.
